June 2015 Outtakes

Speaking life over every situation (including future ones!) has become din's focus. Be inspired to do the same here.

As you know, dré is now in the tropical land of Hawai'i. It may be giving Disneyland a run for it's money for being the happiest place on earth!

Old friends, new adventures. Summer is a time for movement––vacations, local site-seeing, and relocations. Don't fear, we got you covered for style inspiration wherever you are! Whether it's beach ready (see below) or hanging out with friends (see above), we'll have easy hair tutorials and fun new nail art for you to try.

This is the Dinner in the Sky attraction that was available at the Qatar International Food Festival. Would you ever take to these heights to enjoy a meal? Comment below and then revisit din's stylish visit in "Qatari Royale" here.

dré's rocking a beach bod in Hawai'i and what pairs better than a suit to make a splash? Revisit "Ala Moana" to see how you can snag this suit for yourself!

No matter what city––currently Honolulu and DC–– we're in, we're still two girls who are eager to share with you our love for personal style and adventure! Thanks for reading!

Qatari Royale

The weather in the DC Metro area has been wild. Basically, all of California's rain has been rerouted here, meanwhile all the expected spring to summer drizzles are still occurring. I tried think back to when the weather was a little more steady (versus hot days, stormy nights) and I recalled my visit to Qatar.

One of the many activities I did while in the Middle East this past March was attend the Qatar International Food Festival. Along with my dear friend, Stik, I watched a live cooking show, ate Arabic ice cream, gift shopped, and enjoyed the sun. Although I didn't participate, there was a sold out Dinner In the Sky experience, too. Very intriguing!

The man sitting above is a jewelry vendor. While he makes bracelets out of gum tree, he sings. Stik often sees and hears him in the souk, so she wanted me to hear his songs. (One in particular, but he didn't end up singing that tune.) What's interesting is that I purchased some bracelets from his son in the souk a day or so prior––I'll tell you about those soon! Together they have a very successful family business, I'd say!

Ala Moana

In case you didn't know, one of my favorite things to do is go to the beach. When my toes hit the sand, I'm covered in pure bliss. So how perfect is it that I live 2 miles away from Ala Moana Beach?!

There's a huge area that's perfect for paddle boarding which I fully intend on trying out asap. Until then I've been playing with a body board and working on my tan.

The suit that I'm wearing here has got to be one of my new favorites. It's very comfortable and I love the design. It just so happens to be a limited edition suit from Sugarfree, so if you love it, be sure to order yours now!

Speak Life

Last week I was blessed to have a few women pour into my life. Although my days were laced with peculiar events and emotions, it was because these women spoke life over me that I was able to keep my focus where it needed to be.

One of those women followed up with a gift––the necklace and earring set I'm wearing here. Among her encouraging sentiments, she told me to remember my creativity, and to wear it whenever I needed reminding that I'm special.

It meant the world to me that these women took the time to speak life over me, particularly at the time I needed it most.

Who can you speak positive words of encouragement, gratitude, and life over today?

The Laundromat

It's officially been one week since I arrived in Honolulu, and I must say that I'm adjusting pretty well. I only have to wait one more week until the rest of my belongings arrive on the barge.

I'm having so much fun exploring and getting to know my new surroundings. Among my list of findings and firsts, is ordering the best bubble tea I've ever had, and doing my laundry at a laundromat. I kind of felt like I was in a movie as I was folding my clothes!

I can't wait to share more of my new environment with you, so be sure to check back often!

Hair Rx | Headband Waves

It's officially summer and that means effortless hair should be your go-to hair. I'm going to show you an extremely easy way to give yourself summer waves so that when you wake up, all you have to do is remove the  headband you put on before you went to bed and shake out your hair.

Click the link below to see the step by step process of how I gave my daughter these fab waves. You'll be thrilled that getting a good night's rest will do all the work for you!

Mani Monday | Be More Pacific

While I wish I could be as Pacific as dré, this new Wet n Wild color will have to do! If you recall, I picked up this color during that ultra sale I mentioned here. This is the first time I've worn it and I must say the color's lovely! A fun teal, not too green, easy application and quick to dry.

Now if I only had some sand...

Can't wait to be reunited with you, dré, for an all-new drédin adventure!
Let the countdown for my Honolulu visit commence!

Live at the Brooksville

A couple weeks ago I attended a house concert at The Brooksville. Stepping into a dimly lit space, all eyes were on Alice Peacock as she sang through the final song of her first set.

That name may ring a bell, especially if you're a chocoholic, due to her hit "Bliss" which serenaded you into consuming more Hershey's Kisses than you confessed to your trainer. (Watch Alice and John Mayer sing Bliss live, here.)

After reconvening for the second set, Alice did perform Bliss for us. However, there were two songs that truly gripped my attention. The first was "Might As Well Have Fun While You're At It", a fun, jazzy tune with applicable lyrics that were inspired by Alice's late friend. Take a listen and download the song here; it'll have you humming the groovy tune on this sunny afternoon.

The second, "In All Things" had me singing along instantly. I didn't expect that, but with lyrics such as "...will you wait for me on Heaven's shore where the sting of death don't hurt no more..."; "...all they've left for me is just one choice to bow my head and lift my voice"; and "Hallelujah to the Lord above; Hallelujah for the Savior's love; Hallelujah will I sing; Hallelujah even in all things."  Well, you know my heart. It is by far my favorite song of Alice's. You can listen to it on her newly released album Live from Space.

It was a great night of music. And the audience received a special treat when local jazz musician, Mark Meadows, play his original song "Get Lost". I just love live music! You never know when a hidden gem will be revealed!

Catch Alice on tour this summer. If you can't catch a show, be sure to pick up her music on her site or music distributor of choice.

Then, step out into the sunshine, go after your heart's desires,
and remember to have fun while you're at it.
