Marita

Yesterday I shared my backstage experience with Ocksa, and today I want to share Marita with you. Marita was neck and neck for me in the shows I have walked in. This collection was exquisite. Each garment hand made to perfection. The hair was simple, a parted a and slick low bun. The makeup was simple as well, with a bit of highlighting on the upper cheekbone, and blue lips.

I was obsessed with the color scheme as I am a lover of turquoise. Check out all the photos I got backstage and see the beautiful clothes for yourselves. Take note, the top I'm wearing was sooooo heavy!

Ocksa

It's been a few weeks now since I walked in VFW, but I've been dying to share these photos from the Ocksa show. This show had to have been one of my most favorite shows I have ever walked for.
The designers come from Brazil and their S/S '15 collection had layers upon layers. The hair was rough and full of texture on top, while the sides were slicked back. The makeup was a look that I've seen before, but never worn myself—a "no features" look. That's right. Foundation and concealer on everything, including eyebrows, eyelashes, and lips. I felt a little scary looking, and I kinda liked it!

My youngest got to come watch the show which she was pretty excited about. She was loving all the fashion, making sure she got to do her own fashion pose after she was done hanging out with me backstage.

The mood of the show was " we don't want to be here". So one by one we reluctantly shuffled down the runway.

Watch the show in its entirety (and catch me at 1:19:15!) here!

#SMSWalkfest on the National Mall

On Saturday, I spent my morning on the National Mall at the Stop Modern Slavery Walkfest. I was surrounded by DC/MD/VA residents and local organizations raising awareness about anti-human trafficking efforts in the DMV and abroad. The event took place near the Washington Monument and included a full program from music to speeches from activists and survivor-activists to a walk. Human Trafficking is a heartbreaking epidemic that plagues our world. This past weekend, I was re-energized, inspired, and motivated by being among those who are actively fighting to abolish it.

With my abolitionist registration I received this t-shirt and a survivor-made keychain. FreeSet, the company that produces them, is in the business of freedom. All items are made in India by Indian women who are survivors or sex-trafficking in Kolkata.

I don't know what the text says. Perhaps the name of the survivor who created it, or a message. Either way, like the company's mission, it's a symbol of hope.

If it moves you. Move.

Hustle Like Russell: SEAvsWAS

Soooo, I feel really bad/excited/blessed that I have the opportunity to go see the Hawks play against Washington tonight for Monday Night Football. "Bad" because I know my dad, sister, and several of you 12s back in WA would love to be here. "Excited" because it's my first NFL game! And, "blessed" because my friend (fellow UW alumni and 12) is treating me! I didn't have time to make a sign, but I did get creative and make this shirt.

I'm not sure exactly where or when I heard the phrase "Hustle like Russell", but I think it was during a conversation with my sister. It's so true that Russell Wilson is a hustler on the field, so it stuck with me. Although I'll be bundled up for tonight's temperature drop, just know I've got the home team represented underneath my layers!

Go Hawks!

Olive

Each fall I find myself gravitating toward olive green. So when I found these high-waisted pants at Zara in August, I knew they needed to be purchased for my fall wardrobe.

It's finally cooled down enough that I could wear them. It may be a bit before I can wear them again though, because  It's supposed to be in the 80's over the next few days again. This makes my heart happy!
