Journey of a Dress

Feel like a woman, wear a dress! ~~ Diane Von Furstenberg

In honor of Diane Von Furstenberg's 40th anniversary of the wrap dress, I thought I would throw it way back to where it all started.

Last year my aunt bestowed upon me her vintage DVF wrap dress from the 1970's! How lucky am I to have an aunt that was just my size and with such impeccable taste?!

Cheers to DVF! Thank you for making this world a more fabulous place!

Last Minute Craze

Yesterday was a crazy day for me! I'm getting ready to leave on a 2 week vacay, and there is much to get done before I skip this country!

I started with a brief coffee date for a much needed catch up with a friend, and then off for my many errands. My over-the-knee boots gave my casual fit just the right amount of pizazz. What do you think?

Murder at The Juice Joint

"Tips Welcome!", "$1 for the latest gossip", "Chewing Gum, Cigs, and Smart Cigs 25¢"
The jealous mobsters got me! I knew too much!
"For your Oscar-Winning Performance that left the other guests
at The Juice Joint speechless..."

On Sunday, I celebrated one of my good friend's birthday (isn't she beautiful!). How fun that the party theme was a murder mystery! Everyone looked dapper in 20s attire which made me question-- uhm, why aren't we dressing like this ALL of the time?!

I was Cindy Butt, the cigarette girl. Of course I don't support that habit, so I stocked up with candy instead: Smarties ("Smart Cigs"), Red Vines, and Extra! gum-- every "smoker" has to have that! Everything was going well, until the loud mouth of the party (me!) started getting threats from the mob! Next thing I know.. bang! bang!

Even though my character didn't survive the shenanigans at The Juice Joint, my performance will be remembered forever!

Have you attended a murder mystery dinner or party before? Tell me about your experience in the comments below!

My Big Boots

These Helly Hanson boots may be one of the BEST purchases I've ever made! Not only are they completely waterproof, but I have been outside in the freezing cold for hours, and my feet DO NOT get cold! I love how obnoxiously large they are, and it's fun to pair them with something more fitted on my upper half, like leggings. What do you think?

3, 8, and a Little Bit of Faith

I woke up this morning on a mission. I had a couple errands to run, then make my way over to DC Metro for The Dream Team conference. It wasn't until I got a text from a friend that I looked at the phone realizing today's date: 8.

Coffee in hand (my free 12th drink from Starbucks!), I couldn't help but smirk. 3 years. It's been 3 years since I hopped on a plane and made my venture to the East coast.

Of course it had been on my mind that this anniversary was coming up. I sincerely wasn't paying attention though. Nevertheless here it is. At times it has been bittersweet-- I miss my friends and the culture of Seattle (hi 12s!)!! Still, it has been rewarding and full of surprises. If you couldn't tell by now, I love a good adventure.

So cheers to 3 on this 8th day. I'm excited for what the Lord calls me to next!

Underneath It All

If you see a marshmallow out on the streets, it's probably me. However, underneath my parka, I'm cool and casual with my plaid button down and my Puma boots. Like it?

Ice Queen

Winter is in full swing this week. With highs in the low 20s if I'm lucky, my best option is to bundle and hope it passes quickly. In attempt to have some fun with these frigid temps, I decided to camouflage myself with the ice and snow. And since my lips are blue anyway, why not amp them up with No She Didn't by Limecrime?!

Crowned Skull

The skull trend always catches my eye, but I always turn away from it. Call me ridiculous, but I was looking at it in a way more than a fashion trend...

However, amidst the resurgence of my crown obsession, I came across this collar pin-- black skulls with crowns! I don't have anything like it-- collar pin or skulls, so I decided to give it a shot.

What do you think?

Cover Story | February 2014

There's something to say about a nearly 20-year old model whose striking disposition lands her as the face of Prada. There's even more to say when that particular model, 10 years later, hasn't let it get to her head.

This month's cover story feature is Polish-born, Canadian-raised top model Daria Werbowy. In her brief interview with Harper's Bazaar, Daria appears to be everything but the drama. And, as she's 30 now, that's something us girls in our late 20s can look up to!

Harper's Bazaar February 2014 (subscriber cover)

"I can do and say whatever I want now-- because I'm 30.
There was a lot of surrendering."

Traditionally when words like these are spoken, it is a result of or prelude to rebellious nature. But not with Daria. She's most noted for being laid back and worldly (she's famous for sailing across the Atlantic, and currently living in Ireland). Her Instagram is proof.

Still, models.com ranks her #6 for a reason. She's driven. Among her Prada prestige, she's captured the attention of leading houses such as Lancôme, Céline, and Ferragamo. Now, these cemented partnerships have afforded her to do it her way. Daria blocks her work schedule so that she has months at a time off to travel and just live.

I think we can all take note that a little more time for self is important. Whether it's actually taking the allotted vacation time, or taking weekend trips with friends, we can keep that "work hard, play hard" attitude. This is especially important for my fellow workaholic Americans!

Daria's got a relate-able look and an inspiring lifestyle. What are your thoughts on this month's cover story?
