Beauty & Essex

Our weekend in NYC was a whirlwind. You already know. I think that's the best part of our friendship. Even though our lives are crazy busy, we always have time for each other.

Scraping by after 2 nights in a row of 3 hours of sleep, we knew we had to get full on glam to survive the evening before us. Upon a friend's recommendation, we made an appearance at Beauty & Essex. After being ushered in, we made our way up the winding staircase to where it was going down. It was completely packed, but we were clearly dressed to impress, for once we had grabbed our drinks, we were offered V.I.P. seating. No complaints here!

The majority of the evening we were our own entertainment as we were becoming delirious with exhaustion. din even claimed that she aided in a nearby couples' soon-to-be-someday "happily ever after". I guess we shall see!

Before heading out, we decided to dance to just one song. I mean, what's a birthday celebration without a dance?! To my surprise, din requested the DJ play 50 Cent "In Da Club". Next thing I know, both she and the DJ are smiling as din starts singing "Go shawty, it's yo birthday!" What followed next was an entire playlist of hits from our highschool years. We clearly weren't the only 30 somethings there because everyone was feelin' the music!

Thanks for making my birthday weekend perfect din! I wouldn't have had it any other way...well...maybe just a bit more sleep!

Positive Mindset

As much as I'm not a fan of the cold, I must admit that the fashion for these icy climates is fab! I think my two favorite things to wear in these times are boots and furs. After all, I'm all about trying to be positive these days, so why not celebrate these seasonal beauties?! What are your cold weather must haves?

Journey of a Dress

Feel like a woman, wear a dress! ~~ Diane Von Furstenberg

In honor of Diane Von Furstenberg's 40th anniversary of the wrap dress, I thought I would throw it way back to where it all started.

Last year my aunt bestowed upon me her vintage DVF wrap dress from the 1970's! How lucky am I to have an aunt that was just my size and with such impeccable taste?!

Cheers to DVF! Thank you for making this world a more fabulous place!

The Nutcracker

Back in 2nd grade at Terrace Heights Elementary, we performed in the school production of The Nutcracker. (din was 8, dré was 7.) The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies has passed onto the next generation as Kiya, 7, and Adrienna, 4, were in their first production of The Nutcracker this year. Only they one upped us by performing with a professional ballet company at The Capitol Theatre in Yakima.

We took to our closets to pull out festive wardrobes for our evening at the ballet. din wore a long, one-shoulder fitted formal with a faux fur coat, and accessoried with gaudy jewelry and a skull knuckle clutch. dré wore a military style coat with a skater skirt and black tights. Her sky-high heels weren't enough to deter patrons from thinking dré was a part of the production-- "Are you the lead Mouse Cadet!?"

Our holiday reunion is starting off pretty fancy, don't you think?
