Back 2 Black

I always find it odd when people say they need to store their dark colored clothing. Unless the material is too heavy for the season, I'll always wear black. Sure, brighter colors will make their way into my wardrobe for those days I'm inspired to match the sun, but the bold crisp look of black is so intriguing.

I don't know about you, but my black is beautiful.

The Nutcracker

Back in 2nd grade at Terrace Heights Elementary, we performed in the school production of The Nutcracker. (din was 8, dré was 7.) The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies has passed onto the next generation as Kiya, 7, and Adrienna, 4, were in their first production of The Nutcracker this year. Only they one upped us by performing with a professional ballet company at The Capitol Theatre in Yakima.

We took to our closets to pull out festive wardrobes for our evening at the ballet. din wore a long, one-shoulder fitted formal with a faux fur coat, and accessoried with gaudy jewelry and a skull knuckle clutch. dré wore a military style coat with a skater skirt and black tights. Her sky-high heels weren't enough to deter patrons from thinking dré was a part of the production-- "Are you the lead Mouse Cadet!?"

Our holiday reunion is starting off pretty fancy, don't you think?

[ On the Run ]

It's been so go go go for me these days! Here's a few things that are keeping me going:

1) Tunes! Soooo, I just found out about Ariana Grande-- Disney Queen, but very talented!

2) Coffee! Let's be honest. One could not do life without it.

3) Friends! I've started a few groups (Fellowship Cafe & Friday Night Lights) at my church and I'm looking forward to meeting new people!

I can still hear the tune to Tevin Campbell's Strawberry Letter 23. Remember that one? Love it. Every time I hear it, I get a little pep to my step. Just as I do when I throw on an accent color as bold as this strawberry blazer. Add in an eye-catching clutch and I've got the makings for the soundtrack to my runway.

[ Kimora Knows Best ]

 

These are gorgeous!

I just got these in the mail and thanks to Kimora, life in the fab lane just got a little more hot. The Aveiro heel is very comfortable. So if you're looking to break into some sensible shoes for spring, start here.

[ Mail Call ]

I love receiving good ol' fashion snail mail. From the choice of paper card, handmade or store bought, to the message that could be as simple as: "I miss you." --everything about it makes me happy.

My envelope clutch from JustFab makes me happy, too. It's electric like all of my other spring fashion favorites. [Remember my electric blue blazer?] Even more, the ability to pair it with outfits seems endless. I'd list all of the color combos, but I gather you are already familiar with the rainbow.

I encourage you to electrify both your wardrobe and your communication. Has someone been on your mind lately? Pop a note of love in the mail to them this weekend. It'll make their day. Promise.

[ Spring Forward ]

If there is ever a day to set the clock forward, I believe all 9 to 5ers can agree that the weekend is best. And, springing forward on Sunday Funday, even better.

Like many, I woke with a slight panic that my smart phone failed to update the clock. Since I had morning plans to rendezvous with Seattle friends, I could not be late! So, I found my best wardrobe option was to keep it simple and chic. Building from the bottom up, I grabbed my black stirrup leggings, suede coral heels, a black dress tank, and my electric blue blazer.

 I also donned my retro shades and go-to black handbag. This outfit took me from morning church service, afternoon brunch, and dessert at Georgetown Cupcakes. It was perfect.
