Wind Turbines

Yesterday I took a trip to Moses Lake with my family to best the heat at the water park. It was a perfect way to spend the day in the hot sun. Even our drive was beautiful! On our way back home, I had to stop and take some photos of these gigantic wind turbines. The photos don't do them justice of what they look like in person!

Now about my outfit. I went super simple and casual. A maxi dress, sandals, and shades. Don't you love how effortless summer is?!

Trust in Red

It's not a simple task finding that perfect red lip color. Finally, I found my match. This lip color by MAC has a rose pink undertone, versus a blue, so I feel confident wearing it all day long. For every bold lip, it's important to use a liner so that the lines remain clean and distinct. So, I've got the liner to match!

Here's how you, too, can apply a perfect red lip!

1) Exfoliate your lip!
Feathery, chapped lips are a no-no when it comes to wearing a bold lip color. The night before, do a gentle scrub to lift any dry skin. I've used Mary Kay's Satin Lips, but a gentle exfoliating face scrub will also do the trick!

2) Moisturize!
I am constantly applying lip balm! This is especially important after exfoliating. When you wake up the next morning, your lips will be primed for rouge application.

3) Liner first!
Working from your top lip to your lower lip, line the outside of your lips with a gentle application. You do not want a heavy hand here. Instead, build up the color as you make an even pout. Once you've achieved your outline, lightly fill in your lip beginning from the center of your bottom lip out. Repeat on top lip. This simple light fill will help to prevent feathering and color fading prior to lipstick reapplication.

4) Rouge it!
Now, it's time to apply your fav red lipstick. For me, it's All Fired Up by MAC. I chose this for two reasons: first, the makeup artist recommended it; secondly, unlike any other red, I felt confident wearing it. If you're unsure about your red, consult a makeup artist, but always go with what makes you feel confident!

Got it? Good. Now, take your red lipstick and begin applying it to your top lip from the "v" to the corner on both sides. (Don't have a "v"? Create one with your lip liner, then fill it in with your red lipstick!) Then, apply the color over your bottom lip. Fill in any uneven areas and touch up your line with your lip liner. Voilà!

So, tell me. Do you dare to go bold?

Ring Fetish

Look what I found at Brown Eyed Girl in Annapolis! During my recent visit to this beautiful, historic city, I peeked into this funky boutique on Main Street. My jewelry collection just wouldn't be complete without these fun midi-rings and arrowhead necklace! Chevron for your thoughts? Apparently my attraction to this design isn't waning. I'm okay with that!

Enjoy your Friday, Everyone!

Stay Breezy

Today was 100 degrees! And it doesn't stop there. It's supposed to be 106 by this weekend! With temps this high, you have to dress to keep cool. This short flowy butterfly dress helped me feel a bit more breezy. I styled it with my Frye's which are a perfect summer shoe, and a fedora to shade my peepers. Like it?

A Trendy P.O.V.

My dear friend Amy is heading back to the chill coast in a couple weeks to reunite with her fiancé in L.A. So, we've been busy checking things off of her D.C. to-do list. One of our adventures was to go to the W Hotel's rooftop bar for a spectacular view of the city. We arrived around eight o'clock so that we could catch the view at sunset. It was great! Well, until it started pouring! Nonetheless, we had a great time sippin' specialty drinks (Moscow Mules with homemade ginger beer!) and chatting with out of town guests.

If you get the chance, I highly recommend visiting and taking in the sights. Since it is a trendy venue, you might consider making a reservation before you go!

Love, Now Trending

As you know, I attended my friends' wedding reception a couple weeks ago in upstate NY. It was a weekend full of laughter and love and beautiful scenery! The attire request was garden party, so I chose a below the knee skirt with a floral design from H&M Trend. (Note: floral patterns are not required for garden parties!) In the skirt there's a green detailing, so my spring green-yellow sandals really helped pull it out. The slit in the back of my shirt is so sexy and fun, don't you think?

Check my instagram account for makeup details soon!

Have a great week, everyone!

DIY Watermelon Shorts

Last week I showed you my fun watermelon mani I gave myself. I was so inspired by the watermelon shorts I posted along with it, that I decided I had to attempt to make my own!

First I found some white cut-offs at Value Village. This gave me a clean palet to do whatever I wanted to do to them.

Next I got some red and green dye. I found the red dye at Safeway and the green dye at Craft Warehouse. I prefer the liquid dye to the powder dye because it doesn't require as much mixing to make sure the color is even in the dipping container.

I chose to start with the red first, dipping it in the dye until I had reached the desired color, rinsed it well, and let it dry completely. I then did the same thing with the green.

Once the shorts were completely dry, I free handed watermelon seeds onto the red portion of the shorts, with a black fabric pen. When I finished drawing all the seeds I wanted, I ironed my shorts thoroughly. This is an important step as it will make the marker become permanent on the fabric.

And here is my finished result. Aren't they so fun?! I can wait to rock them all summer long! Let me know what you think in the comments below!
