Yes to the Dress

My good friend is getting married and she asked me to help give her style advice on gowns. So, a few girlfriends hopped in a car and headed to the Brides Against Breast Cancer event in Reston, VA. This organization does a dress tour across the nation to not only help raise money for those impacted by cancer, but also to help fit brides in their perfect dress.

In addition to eager brides, the venue had various vendors across the DC metropolitan area in attendance. Hear a bell ring? An angel got A bride chose her dress. Now, typically bridal expos are not my flavor, but I was happy to be of service to my friend.

Are you looking for a wedding dress? Planning to help a bride choose her dress? Here are some tips to keep in mind so that you, too, can say yes to the dress.

1) Go in knowing what you DON'T like. This will save time and heartache when your best friend from HS brings you a magenta gown decked out in multi-colored rhinestones.

2) Remember, it's about the bride. She is/You are not a doll for your shopping gals to play dress up! Suggestions are welcomed, but in the end let her choose.

3) Alterations are key! Clothing, including gowns, can be altered to fit you. Often we shop with the idea that each item should be "made for me". This is happenstance, not standard. If you find a dress that you love but the neckline is off, consider synching it. Your dress, your rules.

Of course my eye was drawn to the whimsical tulle gowns. Soo pretty! For my friend, however, we found styles that made her look stunning. (I won't post for fear her fiancé will take a peak!) All I can say is that she will definitely walk down the aisle to whispers of "What a beautiful bride!"

Have you been to a bridal expo before? Would you ever go? Tell us in the comments below!

It's Time To Dance

[ took this shot in Steve Madden store to get the green light from the husband! ]

Last week when I was in D.C., I went with din to pick up lipstick from MAC at Nordstrom. As we were walking through the mall to catch the metro, these neon shoes caught my eye. That's an understatement. They stopped me in my tracks! Just like din, I also needed to shake things up and a little retail therapy was just the answer!

Since then, I have been waiting for the perfect occasion to bust out my hot new dancin' shoes, and tonight is the night. I'm on my way to my friend's wedding and we're going to celebrate the night away!

3 Generations Of Beautiful

This weekend I had the opportunity to style hair for an awesome wedding party! In the mix was my dear friend, her mother, and her daughter. Talk about pretty people both inside and out!

I gave each of them a completely different style that suited them perfectly! What do you think?!

Goin' To The Chapel And We're Gonna Get Married!!

Last weekend my friend Atraya got married, and I had the honor of doing her hair for her perfect day! I also styled three of her bridesmaid's hair, along with my two little beauties who were her flower girls.

Here is an inside look of Atraya's hair as we prepped her before her life-changing walk down the aisle. As you can see, she was absolutely breathtaking!

Leslie, one of Atraya's bridesmaids, is pictured below. Her hair is gorgeous and fun to work with! She wanted her style to be half-up, and although it looks soft and flowy, it held up through hours of dancing!

Jacque's hair, believe it or not, was a short bob! She didn't think her hair was long enough for an updo, but I had tricks up my sleeve to give the illusion that she had much more length than she actually did.

Finally, here are the flower girls! I curled Kiya's hair with an iron to smooth out her natural curl and pinned it all to one side. I'm so in love with Adrienna's 'fro, that I had her rock it and just braided the front of it like a headband.
