Fall InVESTment

Last week, I had a girl's day with a good friend, and along with lattés, secrets, and our children running wild, I stumbled upon this vest at the mall. Too exhausted from all of the above earlier, I left it there and went on my way. Unable to shake the thought of it, I went back later that day and made it mine!

It's a great piece that I can wear through fall, and add layers to it to last me through winter as well! What do you think?

Roughin' It

The WV cabin I stayed at this past weekend had a lot of layers. Including this yoga studio (which could double as a dance hall for receptions) that looked out to the forest. The adjoining loft space was a hidden treasure, too. Not only was it a blissful way to sleep under the stars, it also gave access to a zip line! [ I didn't attempt more than a photo next to the end point. ]

Below are pictures of the view from the cabin, right outside of the yoga studio. We were blessed with great weather. It was chilly, but not enough to keep us indoors. Some hiked or took long walks, someone even went on a bike ride! None of us, fortunately, came across any bears. If we had, this might be a different post!

I love nature's beauty even though I'm not one to really go roughin' it out in the deserted woods somewhere. And, I love being able to detach and unwind sometimes. This place was great 'cus it gave me a little bit of both.

Into the Wild

This past weekend I was completely off-line. I spend 2 days, 2 nights in WV on a much needed weekend getaway with some friends. It took us approx. 3-hours to get up there losing cell reception/wi-fi the second we crossed over the WV state border. Once we arrived, it was cool mountain air and a warm fireplace to set the tone.

Board games, card games, and lots of chatter started to fill the cabin. The radio station, WZAC-FM 92.5, was on.point. (Bravo, DJ, whoever you are!) Slowly full stomachs and tired eyes caused the excitement to wane, and soon it was just a friend and I working on puzzle. I called it quits at 3:10A. She at 4:30.

The next morning, as promised, I didn't get out of bed until there was the smell of bacon. I came downstairs to coffee (with grounds sent from my cousin in L.A.-- thanks, Cuz, we loved it!), quiche, fruit; etc. More full stomachs ensued and outside we went. My friend whose client owns the home and I went into the wild in search of the figure 8 trail that would lead us to two ponds. Well, we never found the ponds, but we had a great nature hike!

I got really lucky with these photos and the few I'll share tomorrow as they are the only photos that were salvaged from my phone. Last night, after returning from WV and heading straight to my nieces 2 yr bday party, I attempted to sync my iPhone with my Mac. When I did this, it not only synced, but re-imaged it to my former iPhone. So bummed.

Hair Rx

The braid I rocked in my post yesterday caused quite a stir! I had numerous people stopping me to tell me, "I love your braid!", and "How did you do that?!". Rest assured! I got your back! Click the link below for my step by step demo of how you can recreate the look at home, and see the image below for the finished look.

Red Leaves Call For Red Socks

As much as I love summer, I do adore the colors of fall! Plus, I'm having fun with my fall wardrobe!

With all the leather you're seeing everywhere, I couldn't help but bust my own faux leather pants out of my closet. I paired them with a blazer, a royal blue top, and my fab red socks for a pop of color. What do you think?

[ Meow ]

While I was out boot shopping a couple weeks ago I came across these awesome shades. The minute I put them on I knew I needed them right meow. They fit perfect and add a touch of glam. The display pair that I tried, however, had a few scuffs so I opted to order online (I got a black pair, too!). This gold pair went great with my work ensemble, and I'm looking forward to glaming it up with some other options from my wardrobe this fall.

The Force of Destiny

Last night was a such a fun night. In part because it was one to get dolled up! Lots of laughter, time with friends, and... a show!

After a long day at work, I made my way to the Kennedy Center to see a friend in the Verdi opera "La Forza del Destino".

On the way there, I mused the cab driver with a couple songs from Katy Perry's new album 'Prism'. Singing along to my iPod, I told him he needed to hear 'Walking on Air' and 'Dark Horse' [ He had pop radio playing when I got in, so there's a strong chance he'd already heard 'Roar' ]. Yes! I was enjoying Katy Perry on my way to the opera. By now, my music choice should not come as a shock to you.
Once I arrived, I met a friend and we walked in preparing ourselves for what this force of destiny might unfold...

It was hilarious. Was it supposed to be that funny? I got a kick out of it! Oh, Verdi. In addition to the great comedic execution, it was visually engaging. Music was powerful-- superb voices accompanied by orchestra talents lead by maestra Xian Zhang who, with this run, makes her debut at WNO!

The show closes this weekend, so hurry and grab your tix here.

Frighteningly Beautiful

Halloween is just around the corner, and that means, 'tis the season to be spooky! I don't know about you, but if I'm going to be scaring  anyone, I want it to be because of my good looks!

I'm such a sucker for anything festive. So when I went to Walgreens to pick up my prescription, I got pulled right in by the sight of these Disney Villains makeup kits. I went for the Cruella De Vil set because I thought that color pallet would look best on me.

For under $10, you get 2 sets of eyeshadow ( one for a day look, and the other for a night look ), an eyelid primer, a pencil eyeliner, a liquid eyeliner, an eyeshadow brush, mascara, and lipgloss! And I shouldn't fail to mention that it actually wears really well!  The other kit options were The Wicked Queen, Ursula, and Maleficent.

This is the day eyeshadow. I wore it with my hair in a wet look. So fun!

This is the night look. The colors are a bit darker and more sultry.

I love both looks, and am excited to play around with both of them! For more villainous ideas, check out the flats designed after the evil mistresses here

Even my pumpkin has to show off some fashion ;)

Tell us your frighteningly beautiful ideas!

Tutus Make Everything Better

I've been a bit blue lately. The kind where you don't want to do anything. Luckily I have din, the best friend anyone in this world could have! Whether she knows it or not, she has helped me see the sun behind the clouds. And for the days where it seems like the sun will never come, well, then there are tutus.
